Columbia University surgical video cloud storage

Columbia University Irving Medical Center, New York, NY has selected the MD Link integration engine software from MDI Solutions to securely transfer images from their Medicapture video recorders to a NAS for ease of access.

The Department of Otolaryngology at Irving Medical Center had a requirement to store and access video images from their surgical video recorders. MDI’s technical analysts worked with both Medicapture and Irving Medical Center resources to implement a multi-step solution.

The first stage had MDI implement a DICOM Modality Work List server for the video recorders to query for its daily work list. MD Link was then set up to listen for patient demographic detail (from an existing Epic outbound HL7 ADT interface) so the patient demographic data could update the work list. The recorders video data was saved as an MP4 and the associated PHI data (first name, last name, medical record number, date of birth and date of exam) as meta data. The final component saw MDI set up a secure network storage service on the Nextcloud NAS (Network Attached Storage) whereby MD Link transferred the meta data file(s) to the NAS running on Columbia’s AWS Cloud computing environment. The staff at Irving Medical Center now have secure and searchable access to surgical video files.
